Summer Wig Maintenance

The summer season is officially upon us. While others are worrying about what color nail polish to wear or when they should visit the beach, women who wear wigs are stressing about how to care for their wigs in the upcoming months. Not to worry, summer wig maintenance is easy and not stressful at all.

Keeping cool and taking care of your wig this summer is simple, especially with these easy tips:

  1. If possible, switch out your human hair wig for a synthetic wig during the summer months. Synthetic wigs are lighter and therefore cooler to wear during the hot months of summer.
  2. Try out a shorter style during the summer. Long wigs that cover the nap of your neck prevent air circulation, which can get hot after a while. Try a style that allows circulation around your neck.
  3. Don’t want to go short? Not to worry, try braiding your wig to the side to allow air circulation. You can also try a simple up-do to increase air circulation.
  4. When it comes to cookouts, let someone else do the grilling. With the high heat of summer, any exposure to serious heat could cause serious damage to your wig. Storing wigs in an area that gets hot quickly, like the trunk of a car, can cause damage as well.
  5. Summer means extra washing for your wigs, but not too much. Washing about once a month during the summer will keep your wig clean without causing damage to the hair fibers.
  6. Wearing a hat or head wrap while spending long periods outdoors will help protect your wig along with keeping your head and neck cool.

Wigs and Hair Solutions can help with all of your summer wig maintenance needs. We can help style a new or current wig for you to wear during the hotter months of summer as well as help with upkeep and washing.

Take Control of your Hair Loss

When it comes to the process of getting a new custom wig, many aren’t sure of what the process entails. Women will force themselves to be miserable before finally taking the leap and looking into a new wig. By the time they finally give in to a new wig, they are desperate for one, forcing them to settle with a wig that may not work for them.

  1. Do you find yourself stressing about your scalp showing?
  2. Do you wake up to find hair on your pillow and sheets?
  3. Has hair become a permanent fixture in your hair brush, shower, and on your clothing?
  4. Have you stopped going swimming, boating, biking, or simply going to the gym because of fear of hair loss?
  5. Are you making lifestyle changes that wouldn’t have normally occurred because of your hair loss?

These could be indicators that you are in need of a new custom wig and should call Wigs and Hair Solutions for an initial consultation. When you call us to set an appointment for an initial consultation, know that you will be entering a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. We will discuss the cause for your hair loss and see what wig options will be the best for you. We will ask how you normally style your hair and what your lifestyle is like in order to pick and style a wig that suits your needs.

If you will be undergoing chemotherapy that will cause hair loss, it’s a smart idea to schedule a consultation in about 2 to 3 weeks before your first treatment. This will allow us to prepare a custom wig for you before your hair loss begins.

Wigs and Hair Solutions provide custom human hair and synthetic wigs along with partial hair pieces and toppers to women who are suffering from hair loss and balding for a number of reasons:

  1. Radiation treatment
  2. Chemotherapy

Toppers and Partial Pieces

Monday, June 16th, 2014

Custom partial pieces and toppersWhen you are faced with hair loss, a wig may seem like a daunting accessory to soon wear. As soon as a woman is told that she will lose her hair, she immediately thinks of a wig, and that can be very overwhelming. However, a wig isn’t the only answer when dealing with hair loss. Women also have the option of hair toppers and partial pieces when facing hair loss.

Toppers and partial pieces are designed to help with partial hair loss and thinning hair. Depending on the severity of your hair loss will depend on what piece you should consider. The type of piece you choose should be based on where your hair loss or thinning is taking place and how dense the rest of your hair is. The main idea with using these options is to have the hair piece blend with your already existing hair. Here are some tips when choosing your toppers and partial pieces:

  1. Clip in Bangs- If your hair loss and thinning is taking place at the front of your hairline, consider clip in bangs. This will make your hairline appear more even and full.
  2. Small Base Toppers- If you begin to notice your hair thinning around the part of your hair, choose a small base topper or hair piece. This creates a fuller look on top while being light to wear.
  3. Large Base Toppers- If the hair loss and thinning is covering a larger portion of your top rather than just the part, consider a large base topper or piece. This will cover a larger area on top while still not being as overwhelming and heavy as a wig.

At Wigs and Hair Solutions, we work with our clients to style a partial hair piece or topper. We will help you choose which topper or piece will blend best with your current hair and make you feel the least self-conscious. Toppers and hair pieces can be made as synthetic and with human hair. If you are faced with hair loss, but don’t feel ready for a full wig, consult Wigs and Hair Solutions about partial pieces and toppers.

Wigs and Hair Solutions was created by Bonnie Grauer who has over 25 years of styling experience and is currently a 9 year breast cancer survivor. We understand how hard hair loss can be and work to create a look that helps you regain your confidence.

New Technology for Heat Safe Synthetic Wigs

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Heat Safe Synthetic wigsWhen shopping for wigs in the past, your selection of wigs was limited. Synthetic wigs were known to arrive pre-styled and there was no changing it. Synthetic wigs couldn’t be styled by way of heat; they would have been damaged and unusable. Then human hair wigs were introduced, which allowed the individual to style and customize their wig to suit their needs. Synthetic wigs were still lagging behind because of the inability to be styled by way of heat. However, new technology has brought synthetic wigs back into relevance.

This new fiber technology allows individuals to use heat on their synthetic wigs in order to style them to their liking. A synthetic wig that can be styled by heat will be labeled as:

  1. Heat Friendly
  2. Heat Defiant
  3. Heat Resistant

This means that styling by way of blow-dryer, curling iron, and flat iron are safe to use on the synthetic wig. The new technology allows a blend of both synthetic fibers and human hair fibers to be used to create the wig. As the technology continues to advance, wigs can be styled with heat products reaching temperatures as high as 350 degrees Fahrenheit. It is recommended that styling at that high of a heat should be kept to a minimum in order to preserve the life of your synthetic wig.

At Wigs and Hair Solutions, we specialize in the styling and maintenance of synthetic and human hair wigs. We work with individuals suffering from hair loss due to a number of medical reasons:

  1. Chemotherapy
  2. Radiation treatment
  3. Chemical damage
  4. Alopecia
  5. Genetics
  6. Accident Injury
  7. Stress

Owner Bonnie Grauer, a 9 year breast cancer survivor, began Wigs and Hair Solutions to help women take back their confidence during these difficult times. Let us help you customize a synthetic wig to suit your style and habits.
