Winter Wig Maintenance

As the temperatures continue to drop and whispers of snow begin to fill our weather reports, there is no hiding that winter is on its way. Winter weather means harsh weather conditions, which can mean bad news for your human hair wig. Because of this, those who wear human hair wigs must take note of some simple winter wig maintenance tips.

  1. Avoid leaving your home wearing a wig that is still wet from a wash. The colder air will freeze the fibers on your wig, which leaves the hair vulnerable to breakage.
  2. Use wig hair care products that will increase hydration. The cold winter air will strip the moisture from your wig, leaving it looking dull and tangled. When washing, avoid shampooing as often, but condition more. This will help keep your wig moisturized and looking natural.
  3. After washing, allow your wig to air dry, or pat dry with a clean towel. Using a hair dryer, or other heating device, could cause your wig hairs to dry out and be stripped of moisture. Because of the added heat from HVAC systems, wigs are more vulnerable of being stripped of their moisture.
  4. If poor weather like snow, rain, or wind is expected, try your best to shield your wig. Should your wig become exposed to the poor conditions, try your best to detangle your wig as soon as possible. When detangling, use a comb to work knots and tangles out of the wig, beginning at the ends and working your way up.

Choosing your Wig Hairstyle

Wig Hairsyle

When you are faced with choosing a new custom human hair wig, your world may seem constricted and bleak. Most women believe that a wig means one universal, unflattering style that they are forced to wear. However, a custom human hair wig has the ability to be cut, shaped, colored, and styled to your satisfaction. This means choosing the hairstyle that is best for you, and never feeling trapped. This allows you the freedom to choose a hairstyle that matches your personality and suits your lifestyle. There are several things to consider as you choose your new wig hairstyle.

  1. Never choose a wig hairstyle because you think you have no other choice. There are plenty of “rules” and suggestions out there saying which haircuts and hairstyles are best for certain ages and face shapes, but they are never set in stone. The most important thing when choosing a wig hairstyle is that you feel comfortable and confident.
  2. Many of the hair trends today can work on any face shape. The real key to making a hairstyle work is through styling.
  3. Consider any characteristics of your face that you may not want to draw attention to. Once you have determined these areas, choose a wig hairstyle that compliments your face shape without highlighting the areas you wish to have blend in.
  4. Determine what type of face shape you have. The most commonly categorized face shapes include, oval, heart, square, round, and long.
  5. Never be afraid to try something new. A short cut can look chic and edgy while a longer cut with bangs can be bold. Going into a haircut for your wig with the feeling of being limited or stuck will only make you dislike the final product. Talk with your stylist to determine which new hairstyle will work best for you and your new wig.

At Wigs and Hair Solutions, we work with our clients to determine the wig hairstyle that will suit them best. Our trained hair stylists will ask you several questions to determine what type of wig will work best with your lifestyle and overall fashion style.

Choosing your Wig Hair Color

Wig Hair ColorAs you begin the process of choosing your new human hair wig, many decisions need to be made. You must decide your wig style, your wig texture, and your wig hair color. Choosing your wig hair color can be one of the most difficult decisions in the wig process. Many women will take this opportunity to experiment with different wig hair color, but are unsure how to choose which color is best for them. There are different ways to determine which wig hair color will be best for you and which colors to stay away from.

  1. Skin Tone- Use your veins to determine the type of undertone your skin complexion is. Green veins mean you have a warmer undertone while blue veins mean a cooler undertone. If you aren’t able to make a distinction, you have a neutral undertone. If you have a pinker complexion, choose an ashy wig hair color. If your skin complexion has more olive tone, choose a darker wig hair color.
  2. Jewelry- Determining what type of jewelry looks best against your skin color can also help you to determine your skin’s undertone. Gold jewelry means a warmer undertone while silver jewelry means a colder undertone.
  3. Eye Color- Certain eye colors match certain hair colors better than others. Eyes that are grey and blue match well with cooler hair colors while brown and green eyes match well with darker hair colors.
  4. Clothing- Clothing color can be an excellent indicator of which wig hair color will suit your best. If you look best in purples and teals, choose a darker blonde for your wig hair color. If you look best in reds and oranges, choose a lighter brown wig hair color. If you look best in dark blues and greens, choose a light to platinum blonde wig hair color.

At Wigs and Hair Solutions, we work with our clients to determine the wig hair color that will suit them best. Our trained hair stylists will ask you several questions to determine what type of wig will work best with your lifestyle and overall fashion style.
