Hair loss that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the follicles of hair is referred to as alopecia areata. When this occurs, the loss is not always permanent, but specialists are still unsure as to why the loss occurs. While alopecia areata is most commonly found in those under the age of twenty, the hair loss is known to affect women and men of any age.
