Don’t let chemotherapy hold you back! During these trying times, hair loss from undergoing cancer treatment can rid you of your privacy and self-esteem. Don’t let it! There are always solutions and methods of coping that will leave you feeling positive and resilient. Wearing wigs is one of them! Practicing and understanding wig care, before you buy, is very important. Neglecting your new head of hair deems it utterly useless. You don’t want a tangled mess sitting atop your head every day, especially when you’re trying to rebuild that strong heart you’ve got beating in your chest! Before you invest in your shiny, new custom wig there are a couple of things you’ll need to know about general wig maintenance before diving into your investment. Let’s take the time to go over them.
Shampooing and Conditioning
Any wig tangles worse than your natural hair would. Your scalp produces natural oils which help your strands stay hydrated and separated. The strands of your new wig, even if made from human hair, do not have the same naturally occurring source of moisturization. You must account for this when cleaning your wig. Using a very mild, non-stripping shampoo, and a sulphate-free low pH conditioner, clean your flowing synthetic strands regularly. Dab a few ounces of shampoo on your hands and run your soapy fingers through your wig while it’s perched delicately on a wig stand. You cannot wash it the same way you would your natural hair. That is, don’t pile it on top of the head and massage the products into the hair. This will cause your wig to tangle. How often you shampoo depends on how often you’ll be wearing your wig. If you’re planning on wearing it every day, cleaning maintenance must be done at least twice a three times a week. Follow these wig cleaning tips closely and your wig will bounce and flow for years to come!
Brushing And Detangling
The best time to comb your wig is during the conditioning process. Apply conditioner directly after shampooing and run a comb through the strands while it’s processing. Let it dry, with conditioner still intact, and brush it again. When working out tangles, start at the ends of the strands first. Starting from the top and brushing down causes your tangle to bunch up, and it will only get worse. Follow these general wig cleaning and detangling tips to ensure your shining beauty’s longevity. You don’t want a dull, damaged, tangled mess framing your face every day. Take care of your wig, and it will take care of you!
