Follow our wig brushing technique to keep your new head of hair shining!

Those pesky tangles aren’t going to untangle themselves unless you’re brushing your new wig correctly! Sometimes we get those dreaded knots that are impossible to run your fingers through. If you don’t brush properly every day, especially if your wig is long, those knots will keep coming back! Don’t go overboard, though. Brushing your hair too rigorously could ruin your wig. Take the time, today, to learn how to brush it properly to keep those strands shining for many years. Let’s take a look at some specific wig brushing techniques to keep your new wig like new!

Start By Isolating Sections

To start, you’ll need to clip up the top layer of hair so you can work on the underside of the wig first. Using a brush or comb with thick, plastic prongs, comb through the bottom layer of hair gently. Once the hair is shining, and tangle-free, release another layer of hair from the clip..Work on this section until it’s detangled as well. Repeat this process until you get to the last layer of hair, and your wig will be tangle free! It’s easier to focus on big knots when you isolate certain section of the wig.

Never Brush Down

To avoid damaging your wig, you should always start at the bottom of the hair and work your way up to the top. Starting low allows you to work through those pesky split ends, first, as opposed to letting them accumulate from starting at the top of the wig and brushing downwards. Keep those tangles from worsening by brushing from the bottom, up.

To Avoid Tangles, Do Not Submerge Your Wig

You’ll read online, on many amatuer sites, that in order to wash your wig you’ll need to submerge it in a sink filled with warm, soapy water. Do not heed this advice! Often times, submerging a wig in water cause it to tangle much, much easier, especially while it’s wet. The moisture attracts the strands to one another, and sometimes tangling effects from wig submersion are irreversible. Instead, wet a comb with lukewarm water and shampoo and run it through your strands to clean it. Follow our tips and your new wig will stay shining for years to come!
