Confidently Address Your Anemia Hair Loss

Consult a doctor if you’re experiencing symptoms of anemia.

Anemia is the most common blood condition in the U.S. While it affects about 3.5 million Americans, women and young children are at an increased risk.

It’s a condition that develops when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells and your body can’t receive enough oxygen. This is caused by a number of different reasons including iron deficiency, vitamin deficiency, and chronic disease. Symptoms vary, but can include fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, and even hair loss.

This form of hair loss is called telegon effluvium. This is a temporary abnormality of the hair growth cycle, which causes hair that would normally be in the growing phase of the hair growth cycle to be pushed into the resting phase. While the hair loss effects can be temporary, it can take a considerable amount of time for the hair follicles to grow healthy again. There are certain steps you can take to increase healthy hair nutrients if your doctor diagnoses you with iron deficiency.  A woman diagnosed with anemia can experience thinning in the hair on her head, arms, eyebrows, and legs.

Iron Deficiency Anemia

Eating more iron-rich foods or taking dietary supplements is one way to increase healthy hair growth. The most iron-rich foods are red meats such as beef and liver and other animal products such as chicken, pork, fish, and shellfish. If you’d rather pet your animals than eat them, tofu is a great alternative high in iron.

Vitamin C helps the body absorb the iron necessary for your body. Goof sources of Vitamin C are red peppers, strawberries, etc.

Combat with Confidence

If your hair loss is temporary, find ways to be confident while your hair regains its natural growth pattern. If your hair loss anemia is irreversible, understand that you’re not alone. Picking out your first wig is a fun and exciting experience that you can do alone or share with your girlfriends. This is your chance to have the look you’ve always wanted immediately and without hours of prep or styling. Your anemia may have held your style back before, but it no longer has to!
