The temperature dropped significantly this week, which means that the best of summer is behind us, and it’s officially time to start preparing for winter. While we welcome fall with lattes and comfy sweaters, it’s time for those of us who wear wigs to prepare for the coming months in order to prevent your wig from the harsh weather.
Dry Completely After Washing
If you wash and rinse your wig, make sure that it’s completely dry before you wear it outside. Wearing a damp wig could leave the strands of your hair more susceptible to freezing and breaking. This leaves your wig looking frizzy and uneven. This damage caused to your wig is irreplaceable, and could cost you time and money! In order to avoid any freezing of your wig, wash it in the evening and allow it to dry as you sleep.
The Scarf is Your Friend
Hats, scarves, and hoods are a wig’s friend. Not only is it fashionable to wear a cute beanie or wrap a pretty scarf around your head, but these items are also protecting your wig. The wind and precipitation cause damage to the strands of hair on your wig, making it difficult to brush and maintain.
Hats aren’t the best option if you’re going somewhere where you need to remove it. Hat head anyone? When trying to maintain the shape of your wig, try wrapping your hair underneath a silk or satin scarf.
A lack of moisture can cause hair fibers in your wig to become brittle which can potentially make your wig more prone to damage. Invest in wig-specific conditioners to use during the fall and winter months as a way to lock moisture into your wig and prevent breakage and other damages.
