3 Ways Women Cope With Hair Loss

Hair loss

Whether you’re losing your hair due to illness or a traumatic experience, it helps to know where to start.

Hair loss is a difficult time in anyone’s life. Whether you’re losing your hair due to illness or a traumatic experience, it helps to know where to start. This week, we’re discussing simple steps to help you cope during this time

Talk to a Doctor

If you’re losing your hair and not sure why you should start by talking to a doctor.  Baldness is hereditary, so they will start by looking at your family history.  From there, they can perform several minimally invasive procedures to measure the hair loss.  If your doctor suspects an underlying health problem is the cause, they can order a blood test.

Invest in a Wig

Wig shopping can be a fun activity during a difficult time. Take a couple of girlfriends and make a day out of it.  Or, take your family and let your children be a part of the process.  Just make sure you never purchase a wig without trying it on.  You never know how a particular style works for you until you try it.

Build Yourself a Support System

By far the most important thing: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Start by talking to your family about what you are going through.  After all, they will probably be the first ones to notice.  This is especially important if you have children.  Let them be involved in the process of picking out scarves or wigs.

There are so many other women out there who are dealing with hair loss.  Connect with them.  There are plenty of social media groups.  If you’d prefer something more personal, you can find a local support group in your area.  You DO NOT have to go through this alone! No matter where you are in your journey, there are plenty of other women out there who have already been there and are willing to help you get to the next step.
