Breaking the Taboo of Female Hair Loss

If you are experiencing hair loss, you're not alone!

If you are experiencing hair loss, you’re not alone!

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, around 40 percent of women have visible hair loss by the time they are 40-years-old. Female hair loss is a common condition, and more women are starting to open up about their experiences — including celebrities. Read on to learn how female celebrities are breaking the taboo of hair loss for women everywhere.

A Television Star

Sarah Hyland, star of the hit show Modern Family has reported experiencing thinning hair in her early twenties! Hyland has kidney dysplasia, a chronic disorder in which the internal structures of one or both kidneys do not develop normally. Hyland underwent not one but two kidney transplants and was prescribed a series of medication to cope with recovery. Earlier this year, she discussed on Instagram how the medication caused her hair to become very thin. She took to her social media platforms to discuss her thinning hair with followers and fans.

A Talk Show Host

Wendy Williams, known best for her vivacious personality and signature catch-phrases, talks openly about her thyroid disease on her show. She says that the disease caused her hair loss, and she wears wigs as a result. Williams has even developed her own line of beautiful wigs!

A Country Music Icon

Dolly Parton is known for her golden, teased hair, but recently she admitted that she wears wigs! “I used to try to keep my own hair teased as big as I like it,” she told People Magazine, “and having the bleach and all of that, it just broke off… I thought, Why don’t I just wear wigs? That way, I never had a bad hair day! I have a big hair day!” Some of Parton’s wigs date back to 1973! She was happy to share her wig experience with People, and even have a styling tutorial with some of her favorite wigs.
