How Do I Avoid Chemical Damage From Hair Dye?

Frequent bleaching and drastic color changes will leave hair dull, brittle, and frayed.

Hair coloring products are extremely corrosive, especially if you’re lightening your hair with bleach.  Chemical damage from the wrong hair coloring products cause severe hair loss. With too much processing, the internal fibers and cuticle cells become damaged and start to flake. With harsh dyeing, your hair will start to feel course, appear dull, and easily fall from the root. Eventually, if the necessary precautions aren’t taken, entire sections of hair will fall out. Following these steps to avoid hair loss and chemical damage from harmful dyes will keep your shining strands safely atop your head.

The Harmful Effects Of Bleaching

Of all coloring methods, bleaching is by far the most damaging. Raising the outer cuticle of each strand to the surface, the dye will fully penetrate your hair’s protective structures. This causes rapid and continuous moisture loss. Hair will start to appear dry, brittle, and inflexible. Frequently bleached hair is prone to breakage and split ends. Bleached hair is more vulnerable to other styling tools that, otherwise, wouldn’t present an issue. Blow drying, brushing, straightening, and curling could cause bleached hair to fall out. Going from a dark color to a much lighter color is the most chemically damaging hair dye process. You should limit drastically lightening your hair to at least every 6 months if you’re worried about the effects of chemically induced hair loss.

Conditioning and Drastic Color Change

Choosing a hair dye that’s close to the color of your scalp keeps those roots safe and comfortably housed. Limiting how radically you change your hair’s natural color and using a deep conditioner specifically for combatting the effects  of harsh hair dye is best for your hair’s health. Using a daily damage defense product, such as a leave-in spray, helps seal the gaps formed from raised cuticles. Your hair should be very important to you. Treating it well by actively maintaining its health will keep it from falling out. Extreme cases of chemical damage associated with hair loss are irreversible!
