Girl Whispering In Grandmother's Ear

Here’s to strong women!

Historically, the road for women has not been paved in silver or gold. Willful women have challenged the status quo, defied gender roles, and shattered glass ceilings.  Every March we honor the accomplishments of amazing women throughout history and remind the world that there is still much work left to be done for the rights of women everywhere.

Women and Hair Loss

Unfortunately, there is still a misunderstanding of many aspects of the world of women including female hair loss. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, more than 40% of women have visible hair loss by the time they reach the age of 40.

Common Causes of Female Hair Loss

Female hair loss is so common, that there are several different causes of hair loss. Gaining an understand of female hair loss takes you one step closer to understanding hair loss as a whole.

Hereditary Hair Loss

While men have been commonly associated with hereditary hair loss, it’s actually the most common cause of female hair loss. The gene can be inherited from either the mother’s or father’s side of the family, though a person is more likely to have it if both parents have experienced hair loss.

A chronic autoimmune disease, Lupus affects about 1.5 million people and tends to strike women during childbearing years. Lupus oftentimes leads to extreme fatigue, headaches, oral ulcers, swollen joints, and hair loss. Hair growth can begin again when the Lupus has been cured, but can sometimes be permanent.

Iron Deficiency Anemia

When a woman’s blood doesn’t have enough red blood cells, she isn’t getting all of the energy that her body needs. This can lead to fatigue, weakness, and temporary or permanent hair loss.
